Linda Christas Online Academy (Accredited by I.A.S.C.)

Linda Christas Academy designs each program based on a student's interests, aptitudes, learning style, emotional preparedness, and skill levels. No two Linda Christas programs are the same in level or content. In addition, Linda Christas programs are student paced rather than teacher paced, allowing students to progress as they are able rather than in segments regulated by klaxons or whistles.

Many Linda Christas students, for example, with a love of literature, may invest more time during a specific developmental period than in others. Or, for a student with a love of working with mind and hands to create, repair or build, cross discipline academic credit is awarded. (Students in these electives may use pre-designed sketches, or original product diagrams created under the direction of a state credentialed teacher.)

Unfortunately, traditional American schools have adopted a system of education encouraged by John Dewey in the late nineteenth and early 20th centuries, with the use of classrooms and set curriculum, pace, and method. (Note: All students experience several major structural mental changes from the 12th year to the 18th year of life. These changes cannot be accommodated when set curriculum and methods are adopted before the students are known. Dr. Dewey's system was used primarily by the Prussian military first, and after their excellent showing against Napoleon's armies, the system was adopted both throughout Europe and the United States. Linda Christas believes that there is some merit in using such a system to train professional armies. However, Linda Christas agrees with Dr. Albert Einstein when asked his opinion of the Prussian model being used in public and private schools. He said, "It is in fact little short of a miracle that modern methods of instruction have not already completely strangled the holy curiosity of inquiry. It is a grave mistake to think that the enjoyment of seeing and searching can be promoted by means of coercion and a sense of duty. I believe that one could even deprive a healthy beast of prey of its voraciousness if one could force it with a whip to eat continuously whether it were hungry or not."

Academy Program

Linda Christas offers a complete accredited online program to students ages twelve through eighteen. Specific program designs are a product of student interaction with state credentialed teaching personnel.

Many of the best colleges (e.g. Bowdoin, Beloit, Earlham, and Macalester, Amherst) are at the forefront of accepting students who have been able to develop at their natural pace.

Many studies have demonstrated that privately tutored students are more intellectually mature, self reliant, and have better self-images than students who have attended often crowded and under-funded heavily regimented public and private schools. These findings have not escaped the notice of the finest colleges in the United States who are accepting privately tutored students at a rate four times greater than the best students who have been been education in group, classroom centered programs.

Student socialization skills are encouraged by Linda Christas using formats more in tune with natural human interaction than is possible in a top-down, classroom centered setting.
